Notices for Treatment of Liquid Nitrogen

1. When dealing with liquid nitrogen and any objects cooled by liquid nitrogen, be careful not to let liquid nitrogen touch clothing near the skin.

2. Wear safety glasses or masks when transferring liquid nitrogen.

3. Wear gloves when touching any object cooled by liquid nitrogen. Gloves should be loose, so if the liquid is poured into them, they can be thrown away.

4. Only approved non-sealed containers can be used. Never pour it into a coffee thermos. Do not seal it in any container (it will explode).

5. Do not immerse the hollow tube in liquid nitrogen; it may eject liquid.

6. Do not use in poorly ventilated rooms, and do not pour liquid nitrogen on the floor. It can replace enough oxygen to cause asphyxia. Nitrogen is colorless and tasteless. When you dump liquid nitrogen, the clouds are formed by condensate vapor from air rather than nitrogen.

6. Do not store liquid nitrogen in uncovered containers for long periods of time (on the other hand, do not completely seal the containers). Because the boiling point of oxygen is 90.1K, higher than that of nitrogen, oxygen can condense from air to liquid nitrogen. If air is circulated in nitrogen, this liquid oxygen may increase to a level that may lead to violent reactions with organic materials; even materials that are usually nonflammable. For example, serious clothing fires may occur in the presence of liquid oxygen.
